The
Adjutant General, Guam National Guard
Major General Donald J.
Goldhorn assumed the duties of the Adjutant General, Guam
National Guard on 18 March 2005. As the Adjutant General, he is
the principle advisor to the Governor of Guam on all military
matters, and is directly responsible for the readiness,
management and combat effectiveness of more than 1,100 men and
women of the Guam Army and Air National Guard. His previous
assignment was the Assistant Adjutant General for the South
Dakota Army National Guard from 31 March 1999 to 1 August 2001.
He began his military career
by receiving a direct commission in 1969 as a first lieutenant
in the Medical Service Corps. He served 11 months in Vietnam
where he held command positions with the 51st Medical Company
and the Headquarters Detachment of the 67th EVAC Hospital.
Goldhorn commanded South Dakota's 147th Field Artillery Brigade
and served three years as the chief of staff for the Guam Army
National Guard. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for
his actions in saving the life of a soldier, and the Guam
Commendation Medal and Humanitarian Award for his actions in
recovery efforts of victims from the crash of Korean Airlines
Flight 801.
